Dry separation based on float-sink and density segregation in a gas-solid fluidized bed
Presented by Professor Jun Oshitani, Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Okayama University of Science, Japan

Abstract

A gas-solid fluidized bed has liquid-like properties. Large objects float or sink in the fluidized bed based on density differences. When binary mixtures of different-density particles are fluidized, the particles segregate by density; lighter particles move upward, and the heavier ones move downward. Dry separation using float-sink and density segregation is in great demand as an alternative to the commonly used wet separations which have various environmental issues. I’ll talk about our fundamental studies focusing on Float-sink of large objects in a gas-solid fluidized bed different from that in a liquid” and Density segregation in a fluidized and/or vibrated powder bed”.

Biography

I graduated from Kyoto University in 1998 with a PhD. After that, I worked at Okayama University for 18 years. Then, I moved to Okayama University of Science In 2016. My research field is powder technology, especially the development of dry separation technology. I have about 90 papers and 20 patents. I have been collaborating with George Franks for a long time. I have been to Australia many times, so I love Australia!!!
