As featured on multiple University of Melbourne communications channels, on Thursday 5 Dec, COEMinerals (joint) Deputy Director Prof. George Franks received the Australian Ceramic Society Award at the Combined Materials Societies conference (CAMS) in Adelaide.
He received the Australian Ceramic Society (ACS) Award for his contributions to the ceramics field and impact on both industry and academia at the Combined Materials Societies Conference in Adelaide, earlier this month.
This award is the highest accolade by the ACS and recognises outstanding contributions to the field of ceramics in Australia.
Professor Franks, leads the Ceramics and Minerals Processing Group and is Co-Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Enabling Eco-Efficient Beneficiation of Minerals.
His research focuses on using creative ways to control how particles interact, leading to new methods for processing minerals and making advanced ceramic materials.
ACS was founded in 1964 to promote knowledge, innovation, and research in ceramics. The award, established in 1982, is presented every two years to individuals who have significantly impacted ceramics research and practice.
CAMS 2024 was part of an ongoing series of meetings that are the product of the cooperation between two eminent materials professional societies in Australia – Materials Australia (MA) and the Australian Ceramic Society (ACS). These meetings, which represent the forging of joint objectives, began in 2004.
