COEMinerals technology showcased during the 2nd International RFC Upscaling Symposium event (in Norway)

The 2nd International RFC Symposium in Trondheim, Norway occured in April 2024, as organised by the Department of Geoscience and Petroleum at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the RFC Upscaling Consortium’.

This event follows the first RFC Upscaling Symposium, hosted by COEMinerals, in Australia in 2022.

Attending the 2nd Symposium was the ARC Centre of Excellence for Enabling Eco-Efficient Beneficiation of Minerals (COEMinerals) Australian national research centre representative was Dr Peipei Wang, who presented COEMinerals’ science-based case studies on Nickel ore separations using the RFC.

Dr Wang and other attending industry and academic attendees also visited the NTNU-Mineral Processing lab and observed the RFC technology extracting Rare Earth Minerals along with other demonstrated experiments, with Dr Wang sharing: it was fantastic to see their work!”.

The RFC Upscaling project is funded by EIT RawMaterials with the aim of demonstrating the superior performance of the REFLUX Flotation Cell (RFC) technology for copper and iron ore*”. Organisers shared that the event was an, important intermediate step towards full commercialisation and deployment of the groundbreaking RFC technology by FLSmidth together with the partners KGHM International, LKAB, IVL, Solvay, Nouryon, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and NTNU*”.

RFC technology is Centre-developed by Centre Director Laureate Professor Kevin Galvin. FLSmidth is a Centre partner.
